Jakarta –
Presidential candidate number 1 Anies Baswedan reveals plans to develop the Glodok Chinatown area if elected President of Indonesia. Area development will include rejuvenating the temple and building a halal hawker center in the area.
This plan was conveyed by Anies Baswedan while attending the Chinese New Year celebration with the Indonesian Chinese Community (KOMIT) in Chinatown Glodok, West Jakarta, Monday (29/1/2024) evening. Anies initially explained that the revitalization of the Glodok Chinatown area was a continuation of the construction of the gate which was inaugurated in 2022 when he served as Governor of DKI Jakarta.
“We made the gate yesterday. But actually, hopefully it can be developed further. This is a plan that we want to implement,” said Anies Baswedan.
Anies explained that he plans to build a typical Chinatown culinary center and build a Peranakan museum in the Glodok Chinatown area after the revitalization of the gate is complete. Not only that, he wants the area to be equipped with comfortable public space.
“So we hope that later, now the revitalization of the gate will be completed. Later we will build a typical Chinatown culinary center, then revitalize the temple, then the halal hawker center. Then we plan to build a Peranakan museum, build public space there and carry out conservation of historical buildings in this area ,” he explained.
“Then we want to make sure there are areas that become a kind of mural street. So this is a plan, if this authority is given we want to implement this plan,” he added.
Anies said that while he was Governor of DKI Jakarta, his party continued to collaborate with KOMIT. He hopes that this collaboration will continue to the national level.
“With Pak Yusuf, Pak Anwar, Pak Bambang, Pak Didit, we have been working together for a long time. We want this pattern to be continued on a national scale. We hope that a calm, calm, safe and peaceful atmosphere will occur,” he added.
