Jakarta

Presidential candidate number 1, Anies Baswedan, responding to the matter of AMIN National Team Co-Captain Thomas Trikasih Lembong or Tom Lembong being reported by Lingkar Nusantara Advocates (Oral Advocates) to Bawaslu on suspicion of uploading fake articles. What did Anies say?

“I believe Bawaslu is carrying out its duties well,” said Anies in Padarincang, Serang, Banten, Tuesday (30/1/2024).

Anies said there was no prohibition on someone reporting to Bawaslu. This, said Anies, is everyone’s right.

“So if someone reports it, that’s their right. For Bawaslu, I believe Bawaslu works to follow all the provisions,” said Anies.

Anies said that Bawaslu had been working professionally. According to him, Bawaslu also has integrity in carrying out its duties.

“Bawaslu has so far demonstrated integrity. So I believe Bawaslu should respond professionally,” he said.

Tom Lembong was previously reported by the Oral Advocate to Bawaslu. Tom Lembong was reported to Bawaslu on suspicion of posting fake articles related to the Election Law which regulates the president’s right to campaign.

“That’s right (reporting Tom Lembong to Bawaslu),” said the Oral Advocate team, Hendarsam Marantoko, to journalists, Monday (29/1/2024).

The proof of submission of the report is numbered: 053/LP/PP/RI/00.00/I/2024 dated Monday, 29 January 2024. This report begins on Friday, 26 January 2024, Tom Lembong via his Instagram account is said to have uploaded a picture that displays ‘Article 299 paragraph 1’ as quoted as follows:

Article 299 paragraph (1) reads: The President and Vice President have the right to carry out the campaign as long as they are not tied to a blood or marriage relationship up to the third degree, or a husband or wife relationship even if they are divorced from the Candidate Pair, candidate for members of the DPR, DPD, Provincial DPRD, Regency DPRD/…

In fact, according to Hendarsam, ‘Article 299 paragraph 1’ is not regulated in Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections. This article is considered fake, because it is not yet valid and is still being requested at the Constitutional Court.
