Presidential candidate number 1 Anies Baswedan said the government must take responsibility for the explosive vote of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) in the last three days even though the party is led by President Joko Widodo’s son (Jokowi) Kaesang Parangep.

“The government must take responsibility even though the chairman is the president’s son, but that doesn’t mean everything can be done to a party led by the president’s son,” said Anies when met at Kampung Akuarium, North Jakarta, Sunday (3/3).

Anies hopes that the commotion that often arises due to widespread problems with the KPU’s Recapitulation Information System (Sirekap) in the 2024 Election will not damage the public’s legitimacy towards the election.

“Don’t make the election flawed later, if the election is flawed all the time. Tilapia is spoiled by a drop of milk,” he said

“Once an incident like this happens, it will destroy everything. If it destroys all the people’s trust, they will lose all of the people’s trust in yesterday’s election process,” he continued.

Previously, the surge in PSI votes in the 2024 Legislative Election was highlighted by the Chairman of the PPP DPP Advisory Council, Muchammad Romahurmuziy. He considered the spike in votes strange.

The politician who is familiarly called Romy compared the surge in PSI votes in contrast to the decline in votes experienced by PPP.

He also mentioned the KPU and Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) accounts on his personal Instagram account when protesting the irregularities.

“Please pay attention to @kpu_ri and @bawasluri, what operation is this? To borrow Mr @jusufkalla’s language, another ‘child-loving’ operation?” said Romy on the @romahurmuziy account on Saturday (2/3). CNNIndonesia.com have received permission from Romy to quote.

Romi’s protest was also responded to by KPU Commissioner Idham Holik. He said Sirekap was not used as a determinant of election results.

“We don’t yet understand what is meant by this surge. What is clear is that the Election Law confirms that the vote tallies of election participants ratified by the KPU are based on official recapitulation,” said Idham at the Indonesian KPU Office, Jakarta, on the same day as the PPP protest.

On the other hand, Deputy Chair of the PSI Advisory Board Grace Natalie invited all parties to wait for the final results of the KPU’s manual calculations. He criticized parties who tried to sway opinion regarding the surge in PSI votes.

“Moreover, up to now more than 70 million votes have not been counted and most of them are in Jokowi’s support bases where PSI has the potential for strong support,” he said in a written statement.
