Anies Baswedan Accepts Challenge to Debate Presidential Candidates with BEM UI

Jakarta

Spokesperson for the presidential candidates (Bacapres) Anies BaswedanSurya Tjandra welcomes the challenge WELL UI who asked for three presidential campaign candidates on campus. Anies is open with pleasure.

“Of course this will be a challenge that Pak Anies is happy to accept,” said Anies spokesperson, Surya Tjandra, when confirmed, Monday (21/8/2023).

Surya said that Anies’ team was indeed targeting young people for discussions regarding the nation’s future views. He said the majority of people would know about Anies’ idea after meeting him in person.

“We on Anies’ team are also actively targeting millennial groups and young workers who are indeed very vulnerable in the current situation. Many student groups have supported us after feeling Pak Anies’ direct touch,” said Surya.

Surya said that in the near future Anies will indeed be attending a national event at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UI. The event will be held on August 29, 2023.

“Yep, coincidentally on August 29, 2023, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UI will hold a national lecture by inviting three presidential candidates, Anies Baswedan plans to attend,” he said.

As for his social media, Anies has accepted the BEM UI challenge. Anies asked when the scheduled meeting would take place. “Come on, when?” Anies said.

BEM UI Challenge

It is known, after the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK), BEM UI challenged the presidential candidates (candidates) to come to their campus. The yellow jacket students want to debate the presidential candidates.

“If you really have the guts, BEM UI invites all presidential candidates/potential presidential candidates to attend UI because we are ready to skin all of your thoughts,” said BEM UI chairman Melki Sedek Huang in a written statement entitled ‘Please Come to UI If You Dare! ‘, received detikcom on Monday (21/8/2023).

This challenge was launched by BEM UI in response to the Constitutional Court’s decision which was announced on August 15, 2023. The Constitutional Court granted the lawsuit against Law Number 7 of 2017, specifically Article 280 paragraph (1) letter h. As a consequence, campaigning in places of worship is totally prohibited. However, election participants can still attend educational places and government facilities as long as they are without campaign attributes and at the invitation of the responsible party. According to BEM UI, this must be utilized optimally.

“The ability of educational institutions to invite prospective leaders must be used to test the substance and contents of the brains of each prospective leader, instead of becoming a field for the faces of campus leaders and a field for the eyes of intellectuals and politicians,” said Melki Sedek Huang.

He feels that political campaigns and politicians’ utterances are getting boring. Children are not interested in lip service, identity politics, and political imagery. Young people from UI students want to argue with the presidential candidates.

“We are ready to convey our aspirations and debate all of your arguments if necessary. We don’t want the future of this nation to depend on prospective leaders who only focus on campaigns, imagery, and low-quality lip service. We need leaders who are smart and side with the people, said Melki.
