Angry MotoGP racers asked to participate in cleaning the Mandalika circuit, Morbidelli: We shouldn’t have done this! : Okezone Sports

LOMBOK – Monster Energy Yamaha racer, Franco Morbidelliangry because the riders were asked to clean the dirty Mandalika Circuit on the first day of the pre-season test MotoGP 2022. Morbidelli emphatically stated that this is not the job of the drivers.

As is known, the 2022 MotoGP pre-season test at the Mandalika Circuit was held from yesterday, Friday 11 February 2022 to Sunday 13 February 2022. However, on the first day, the test had to be delayed by 1 hour on a dirty track after heavy rain overnight.

The Mandalika Circuit track looks dusty and has sand. The track became muddy. As a result, the test was finally stopped so that the Marshals cleaned the surface of the track.

When Marshal cleared the track, a meeting between the drivers, Dorna Sports, and the FIM Safety Officer was held to find a solution to the problem. The drivers are then asked to cover a minimum of 20 laps to help clean the dirty circuit.

“The fact is that drivers are not supposed to do this job. They shouldn’t have cleaned this track,” said Morbidelli, quoted from Motorsport International, Saturday (12/2/2022).

“It’s dangerous to ride a motorcycle on the ground with a MotoGP bike. It’s very dangerous, it is dangerous. Nobody wants to get off track,” he said.

Morbidelli also assessed that Ducati decided to continue the test even though the track was dirty because it had differences with Yamaha. He considered the Desmosedici to be a safe motorbike even though it was used on a dirty track, but it was different from other teams who had to choose to wait for a clean track.

“Ducati is a bike that has a lot of grip, also today I think we have seen once again if you try to read what happened today, we have seen the difference between the bikes. We saw a lot of Ducati riders riding when there was dirt on the track.”

“They decided it was safe enough to go out there and clear the track, while for some of the other riders it wasn’t. They waited a bit longer, but luckily some of the Ducati riders, some of the KTM riders got off the track, which in my opinion is the bike with the most mechanical grip.

Meanwhile, Morbidelli did not break into the top 10 on the first day of pre-season testing. He only occupies the 12th position with a time of 1 minute 33.518 seconds.
