In 2009, the Iphone and App Store were new, and Finnish developer Rovio was one of the first developers to take advantage of the new platform’s capabilities. The game Angry Birds became immensely popular and made Rovio a billionaire company.
Since then, Angry Birds has become its own small industry with a long line of sequels and also two animated feature films. Rovio jumped on the freemium bandwagon and modern Angry Birds titles are usually free with various in-app purchases.
In 2019, the original game disappeared from the App Store because it was too old and no longer worked fully on newer devices. Fans of the game started a name collection that led to Rovio promising to update and release it again.
Now the new old Angry Birds are here and sold on App Store as a one-time purchase just like the original. The developers says that they have rebuilt the whole game from the ground up but have placed great emphasis on getting exactly the same feeling.
– We know that our fans are a bunch of connoisseurs who would notice the slightest difference. Matching the game mechanics and appearance to the original was of utmost importance.
