Artists stand up like OpenAI policy
On November 26, an anonymous group hosted on Hugging Face a preliminary version of the model with a backend server to the OpenAI domain and a variant named “Turbo”.
For three hours, Internet users could generate 10-second videos in 1080p via a dedicated interface. The OpenAI watermark was displayed, which reinforces the veracity of this leak. Another clue, the URL of the backend server: https://sora.openai.com/backend/video_gen.
But who is the author of the leak? The group presents itself as 300 artists selected by OpenAI to test Sora. According to them, OpenAI uses them as “Unpaid R&D” with the aim of obtaining free tests or training data. They believe that the compensation offered is insignificant compared to the profits made by the company that develops ChatGPT.
However, those who identify themselves as artists are not opposed to the use of AI in art. The problem lies with the program offered by OpenAI. The group wants the company to be more transparent and supportive of the arts community. In addition to this leak, a support petition was posted online.
OpenAI suspends early access for testing artists
In response, an OpenAI spokesperson explained to TechCrunch that Sora is in the research phase. The company balances performance and security measures. The company specifies that participation in the testing program is voluntary, with no obligation to return. But users agree to use the model responsibly and respect confidentiality until the official launch. Following this affair, OpenAI has reportedly suspended early access for all testing artists.
