Angoulême: the new painted wall is the idea of three high school students

The work, designed by the artist Hervé Gay perched for eight days at just under ten metres, is a tribute to festivals. Racing car roaring on the ramparts, film clapperboard, chef’s hat, piano, cloud, every element present is a reminder of an event in the city. The whole is dominated by the fawn. “I still find it hard to realize, testifies Adèle Fréboeuf. There are many confirmed artists who would like to have this chance. »

Let’s go back to 2021: Diego Ramirez-Métayer and Thomas Lorillon, then in first class at the Marguerite-de-Valois high school, are working on the design of a fresco inspired by street art. Their hit is popular and becomes the winner of a competition held at the establishment. The duo then decides to submit it to the participatory budget. It is here that she was spotted by Adèle Fréboeuf. The teenager, in first “Applied Arts” at the Charles-Coulomb high school, takes the initial sketch before sending a final version to the couple. Who validates it.

Contemplating their work, the duo, both in art school – he in Bordeaux, she in Limoges -, savor: “It won’t go away after a week. When we’re 50 we’ll see it again. » The same satisfaction for the boss of the Epi d’Or, Thibault Lafitte, who after his arrival in January 2019 renovated the facade and balconies of the building: “I started the job and you finished it. »

Please note that since the work was not designed by professional authors, it will not be included in the official painted wall circuit.
