Noticed in July at the Cannes Film Festival, “A story of love and desire” tells the sentimental education of Ahmed, a young man from the Parisian suburbs.

Among the ten feature films in the running for a “Valois”, the jury prize chaired by filmmaker Nicole Garcia goes to “La Vraie Famille” by Frenchman Fabien Gorgeart, which also won a “Valois de l’Actrice” for Mélanie Thierry , in the role of a foster mother torn apart by the departure of a little boy.

“La nuit des rois” by Franco-Ivorian Philippe Lacôte, immersed in an overcrowded African prison, was also rewarded for its staging and music. Another film to win a double prize in particular for the scenario, “My Legionnaire” of the French Rachel Lang, tells the life of the couples under the flags of Foreign Legion.

The online vote of the spectators for its part plebiscite “Black box” of the French Yann Gozlan, an investigation into an air crash.

The jury of French-speaking students, chaired by actress Anne Parillaud, awarded him its prize for “Petite nature” by Samuel Theis, the story of a boy struggling against his social condition.

Despite a still very unfavorable context for cinemas, which are struggling to find their audience, this 14th edition with masks and health pass, exceeds expectations with at least 36,000 seats sold for some 70 films screened since Tuesday (against 27,000 in 2020) , an assessment that brings him closer to the 40,000 moviegoers of the pre-pandemic.

The festival, which has in the past rewarded, or launched, future popular successes such as “Intouchables” (2011) or “Guillaume and the boys, at the table!” (2013), had crowned in 2020 “Ibrahim” by Samir Guesmi.
