The 16th edition of the Angoulême Francophone Film Festival, an unmissable back-to-school festival, will take place from August 22 to 27, 2023. It will once again be a great opportunity to discover many nuggets that combine popular and subtle cinema, dramas and comedies, among the eleven films in competition and the thirty films presented in preview, in different categories.

This year, no less than eleven feature films are in competition, within a superb selection with very varied themes, which highlights three first films. The filmmakers, including 7 female directors, and the actors will come to defend their films, all preceded by short films also in competition. 6 screenings are now scheduled for each film.

The feature film jury will be chaired by the actress Laeticia Castawho will host a Master Class on August 26 and will award the famous Valois (Diamond, Direction, Screenplay, Music, Actor and Actress, Best Animated Short Film).

The opening night of the Festival on August 22 will allow the public to discover in preview The little of Guillaume Nicloux with Fabrice Luchini (who will host a Master Class on August 23). The closing evening on August 27 will offer to see Flothe biopic about Florence Arthaud and the actress’ first feature film Geraldine Danonwith Stephane Caillard et Pierre Deladonchamps.

Three films are programmed in the category The flamboyantsdont Bonard, Peter and Martha of Martin Provostwith Cecile of France et Vincent Macaigne. Festival delegates are also programming two of their Favoritesdont Tony with familysecond feature film by Nathan Ambrosioni with Camille Cottin.
The category First Appointments will give the opportunity to see 3 first films, including like a wolfof Caroline Glorion with Sarah Juice et Sandrine Bonnaire or The cool head of Stéphane Marchetti with Florence Loiret-Caille.
A focus on the director Philippe le Guay will be the opportunity to review 5 of his films, including The women of the 6th floor, Alceste in bycicle et The cost of living and to listen to him talk about his job during a Master Class on August 25th.
Switzerland, a French-speaking country invited this year, will receive the honors of the Festival with the programming of 9 films by Jean-Luc Godard (Detective et Live your life), Ursula Meier (The child above), Lionel Baier (The big waves in the west) or Delphine Lehericey which will premiere Last dance with Francois Berleand.
7 heritage films will be screened in the collection Family jewelsdont Golden Helmet of Jacques Becker, The passenger of the rain of Rene Clement et thank you life of Bertrand Blier.
A musical tribute on stage will also be paid to Jane Birkinafter the screening of the film Jane by Charlottedirected by his daughter Charlotte Gainsbourg.
Finally, the FFA is taking up this year the crucial debate that worries screenwriters around the world, as evidenced by the strike of screenwriters and actors in the United States: “Does AI sign the end of a part of the creation? And will the 30th edition of the FFA be done without screenwriters? “. The question will be tackled during a round table on August 25th.
