The director of the Research and Statistics Office of the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas (MIREMPET), Alexandre Garreth, said yesterday, in Luanda, that Angola plans to go from an annual production of 8.72 million carats of diamonds to 17.53 million 2027. Alexandre Garreth, who was speaking at the Training Conference for Economic Journalists and Communication Professionals, said that the department intends to achieve this goal to support producers to increase the production of diamonds and gold .
The strategy also includes implementing diamond discovery and exploration projects until 2025 and optimizing the productivity of diamond projects to reach programmed production levels and get closer to the top places in world production.
Angola wants to sign into new diamond projects identified by 2027 and implement the Diamond Exchange by 2026. In terms of gold production, it is expected to increase from 1.37 thousand fine ounces to 13.18 thousand ounces in 2027, with the restructuring of existing production projects and the acceleration of the construction of the Luanda gold refinery, which is expected to be completed this year.
In turn, the Secretary of State for Mineral Resources, Jânio Correia Victor, said that the training seminar for Economic Journalists and Communication Professionals in the field of Mining aims to update and consolidate knowledge and basic foundations about the mining sector.
The department wants journalists to know about public policies, the activities of mining companies and the role of the national concessionaire for mineral rights. “In April 2018, we held the first workshop for journalists under the motto, “Knowledge for the better communication sector”.
Since then, several other informative and training activities have been carried out by the Ministry and by public companies and institutions under the supervision of the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas”, he recalled.
The official pointed out that the Ministry of Mineral Resources holds, every year, informal meetings with journalists to review the sector and the ability to eliminate some doubts, with the aim of increasing knowledge about the extraction industry. “Our goal is that media professionals, analysts and reporters deal more deeply with issues from the Minas Gerais region in their news pieces”, he said.
