Angola: Huawei brings digital infrastructure to isolated communities

Luanda — Hawei-Angola has in its portfolio the development and transformation of the digital economy aimed at communities in the most remote areas of the country, said this Monday in Beijing (China), the general director of this institution in the Portuguese-speaking countries of Southern Africa, Hou Qiang.

The official made these remarks during his meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, on the sidelines of the 9th China-Africa Cooperation Conference (FOCAC-9), where he represents the President of the Republic, João Lourenço.

During the audience, the general director of Huawei in the Portuguese-speaking countries of Southern Africa presented to Minister Téte António the different projects underway by this company in Angola, ranging from the discovery and training of new talents, to digital acceleration and the implementation of technological solutions with a social impact throughout the national territory.

According to the Huawei official, the digital solutions package includes digital infrastructure, renewable energy and low-cost digital phones.

He stressed that this set of digital solutions aims to stimulate the informal market and its integration into the formal market, thus facilitating economic transactions for local populations, especially the most vulnerable.

Hou Qiang explained to the Angolan Foreign Minister that the success of this ambitious project should be encouraged by the Angolan Government, so that Angolan telecommunications operators can easily offer their services in areas without coverage.

Hauwei Technologies, with over a hundred branches worldwide, is a multinational networking and telecommunications equipment company headquartered in Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province, People’s Republic of China.

In Angola, it has been operating in Luanda for over 20 years, investing mainly in the areas of communications infrastructure and in the training of new talent.
