Anglet Neighborhood Council Meeting: Proposals, Building the City, Aquatic Center, and More

The first of the three annual public meetings of the neighborhood councils was held in the village hall of the town hall. It concerned islets C and D, which bring together Larochefoucauld, Chassin, Bois Belin, Louillot, Saint-Jean, Courbois, Tivoli, Pontôts, Bernain and Union. These meetings are an opportunity for Claude Olive to take stock of the work in progress and in return, for the public, to ask questions.

1 Proposals for Arkinova

The environmental question occupied an important place. “The city is full of parks, whether historic like those of Ansbach, Beatrix Enea, Belay, El Hogar or Montaury, or recent creations in Larochefoucauld, along the avenue de Bayonne or the rue Francis-Jammes”, enumerated the mayor, who also included in this list the green rehabilitations rue Rénéric and the two forest massifs of Pignada and Lazaret, as well as the golf courses of the Empress and Chiberta. “All these spaces which make Anglet a green city, represent 700 hectares”, underlined Claude Olive.

The subject of the Arkinova concerted development zone (ZAC), covering seven of the twenty hectares of forest, wetlands and market gardening in the Landes de Juzan, was raised by a participant. The opportunity for the mayor to recall that he would oppose this project, as currently envisaged by the Basque Country Agglomeration. He indicated this in a letter sent on April 25 to the president of the Agglomeration Community, Jean-René Etchegaray. He proposes other solutions there, “without touching the forest” on already existing spaces, or in other sectors, such as the Redon activity zone, because “we cannot be opposed to the development of Higher Education “.

“We are only responding to the high demand for housing”

2 Building the city on the city

Wanting to preserve natural spaces does not exclude having to answer the question of housing. Anglet has just crossed the bar of 40,000 inhabitants. Since 2014, the city has gained 2,318 inhabitants. Much less than the neighboring bayonnaise, did not fail to raise the first Angloy magistrate. “I regularly hear remarks and criticisms about the urbanization of our city. We are only responding to the strong demand for housing, due in particular to family breakdown. From more than three people per dwelling in the 1960s, today we have fallen to less than two people. To accommodate 16,000 inhabitants in 1962, 5,000 housing units were needed. Today, more than 20,000 housing units are needed to accommodate 40,000 inhabitants. »

To meet this challenge, the axes of the RD 810 and the boulevard du BAB remain a priority. “Remember their old layout, with empty warehouses and houses. We are just building the city on the city. »

The next meetings

Thursday 11 May, at 6.30 p.m., Espace de l’Océan, place des Docteurs-Gentilhe: block A (Chiberta, Chambre d’Amour, Cinq-Cantons, Golf districts) and block B (Brise-Lames, Blancpignon, Montbrun, La Butte-aux-Cailles).

3 Aquatic center and water reserve

The aquatic center project in El Hogar was also mentioned in the presentation by the mayor of Anglet. “It will be located a little below the current swimming pool. We will first have to build the car park”, underlined Claude Olive, who specified that once the new aquatic center was built, the current swimming pool would be dismantled, except for the basin, which would be transformed into a water reserve.

With the same objective of preserving water resources, all beachside showers that are not connected to the water network will be replaced by foot rinses.

4 Paid car parks and beach buses

The question of the arrival of paid parking for beach car parks was also on the agenda. “It will be effective from July 1 or 15,” replied the mayor to a question from the room. “We are preparing the system so that Angloys can register with their gray card and proof of address, so as not to pay. These car parks will be chargeable from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. There will be a red sector, where there are shops, with a duration limited to three hours. Elsewhere, it will be 10 a.m. Subscriptions will be provided for seasonal workers. »

An Angloye was worried about the service of the beaches by public transport. “Four bus lines will be reinforced,” assured Claude Olive, who announced a ten-trip card, free, for Angloys.
