JAKARTA – Through the short film Konfabulasi, director Angga Dwimas Sasongko broke the boundaries of tools in the process of making a film. Precisely when the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G smartphone is able to produce images whose quality is difficult to distinguish from professional film cameras.

Confabulation is not an ordinary short film. It feels like there is a lot to achieve in the film. Especially in terms of cinematography.

Because, Confabulation should be a film full of limitations. Everything is limited, because instead of using a professional camera, director Angga Sasongko really relies on the image quality on the image sensor of the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G smartphone.

However, what is interesting is that Angga Sasongko does not want to play it safe and “gives up” to his limitations.

On the contrary, he wanted to break through that limitation. This is evidenced by how the scenes in the short film are deliberately chosen as “risky” and will be avoided by those who rely solely on smartphones to record movies.

This is because most of the scenes in the short film Konfabulasi were taken in dark settings. In the alleys with street lights, to the rooms where there is no light and only dim lights.

Likewise the choice of scene. Angga is very confident in presenting action scenes such as explosions, shooting, to car accidents.

The short film Confabulasi immediately opens with a shooting scene.

The director of the Philosophy of Coffee and Letters from Prague took advantage of the compact size of the phone to create dramatic scenes. Namely when the camera rotates in a narrow angle between the arms of Reza Rahadian and Dian Sastrowardoyo.

And all of these scenes were successful. It’s hard to believe that the cinematic and dramatic scenes in the Confabulation movie were recorded using only the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G smartphone.

Head of IT & Marketing for Samsung Mobile, Samsung Electronics Indonesia Miranda Warokka said that this also proves that the technological capabilities of the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G are indeed very capable of making short films seriously and professionally.

“For example, the 4K 60fps camera, the Exynos 2100 (5 Nm) chip, to the Director’s View feature which can change the camera angle when used,” he said. Miranda said that the Confabulation film had become a new benchmark for the Indonesian film industry.
