Angevins Beat Bordeaux to Secure Second Place in Ligue 2 Standings

The Angevins beat Bordeaux this Saturday and climbed to second place.

Angers, with a good victory on Saturday at home against Bordeaux (2-0), moved up to second place in Ligue 2, Grenoble and Auxerre, also fighting for the climb, having each conceded a draw during the 11th day .

Stade Lavallois, undefeated leader with 25 points, will have an opportunity to consolidate its lead when it hosts Saint-Etienne (6th) on Monday evening. In the meantime, Angers occupies 2nd place with 23 points. Followed by Auxerre (22 pts) and Grenoble (21 pts). In their Raymond-Kopa stadium, the Angevins offered themselves a fifth success in a row by dominating the Bordelais.

Alexandre Dujeux’s men first took advantage of a blunder by goalkeeper Rafal Straczek converted by Jean-Romeric Lopy (32nd). They then unfolded their game of movements and sharp races which pierced the Gironde rearguard, scoring in the 60th a magnificent collective goal concluded by the young 18-year-old striker, Jean-Mattéo Bahoya.

Opposite, the Bordelais, for the first of their new Spanish coach Albert Riera, tried to deploy a polished game but were very clumsy in the last gesture. For its part, Grenoble, who were playing at home, snatched a precious point after a crazy match (3-3) but lost ground in the race to climb. Fourth, Vincent Hognon’s men let themselves be surprised by Valenciennes without any complexes and guided by Aymen Boutoutaou, scorer (13th) then author of a decisive corner (57th).

Trailing 3-2 until the 90th minute, the Grenoblois equalized at the last minute through Amine Sbaî, in a very fast-paced match, in which the two teams went blow for blow. A little earlier in the afternoon, the Auxerrois had extended their good series with a ninth match in a row without defeat, but had to concede the draw (1-1) in Caen (1-1), where they found their former coach Jean-Marc Furlan, sacked last year, on the opposite bench.

The Burgundians opened the scoring with a big mistake from left back Ali El Abdi, who scored against his camp while trying to pass back to his goalkeeper (6th). The Caennais equalized at the start of the second period (52nd) on a cross from Yoann Court deflected by the Auxerre defense which deceived Donovan Léon. At the bottom of the table, Dunkerque gave in once again (3-1) against Paris FC, suffering a 7th defeat in eleven matches which keeps them in 20th and last place with 6 points. Author of a draw at Guingamp (1-1), Quevilly-Rouen remains 19th but continues a third match without defeat.
