The Ducs d’Angers could not have dreamed of a better start in the Final Four of the Continental Cup against Cardiff (1-1, 2-1 pens). In front of their public, the Angevins started the match perfectly with the achievement of the Canadian Philippe Halley in the 3rd minute, thanks to an assistance from his compatriot Jonathan Charbonneau.
Then Jason O’Leary’s men defended fiercely for two thirds. They ended up cracking two minutes into the third period, on a goal from Brodie Reid. Neither team took precedence over the other in a closed match. After the goalless overtime, head to the penalty shootout.
Clash against Nitra on Saturday
In that game, Philippe Halley responded to Brodie Reid to equalize after the first failure of Jonathan Charbonneau, on the French side. The following three shooters from the Welsh side failed and it was finally Brendan Harms who gave the advantage to the Magnus League resident club, before a final failure by Joshua Waller to offer victory to the Dukes.
The latter are co-leaders of this final group, with Nitra, winner of Asiago 5-3 earlier in the day, and can dream of a first crown in this competition. A victory in the clash against the Slovaks on Saturday would pave the way for them to the title.
