With unprecedented attendance in 2023, the park dedicated to plants and biodiversity continues to develop and announces two major new features for the next season.
The 2023 season of Terra Botanica ended at the beginning of November with a record: 554,000 visitors passed through the gates of the park, an attendance never reached since its opening in 2010.
Its management wishes to ride this wave by enriching the site’s offering in 2024 (the reopening is scheduled for the very beginning of spring, on March 24). Two new features have been announced: the “animal glade” and “the butterfly gallery”. These two “attractions” will be dedicated to local wildlife.
The “animal clearing” will thus offer a space of 5000 m², shared between undergrowth and meadows, to several dozen species, raised on the territory: cows, pigs, rabbits, chickens, alpacas, sheep and goats will occupy the land in complete freedom. This is not a first in itself at Terra Botanica: many domestic and wild animals were already there, but without direct contact with the public who could only observe them from a small train. With the animal clearing, the immersion will be total: “This clearing will be a new place of mediation to explain the interactions between animals and plants” specifies the park.
From May 2024, the tropical greenhouse, a refuge for moths from all continents, will be complemented by the butterfly gallery, an aviary entirely dedicated to regional species.
The location will provide information on host plants essential for butterfly reproduction, such as sheep sorrel, nettle, thyme, and blackthorn. And visitors will learn more about the essential nectar plants that feed butterflies: lavender, valerian and lilacs.
The park also plans to set up a new cycle of conferences and workshops focused on the theme of biodiversity. The Envolées Végétales festival will be spread over around ten dates in July and August.
