A campaign by Vechtdal College in Hardenberg to get students to wear face masks has caused quite a stir online. Especially people who are against wearing mouth masks speak out. According to them, the video declares ‘pedagogical ignorance’ and the children are indoctrinated.
In the video that was posted by the school on Twitter, you see a school where mouth masks are not worn. From a row of students, a boy is designated as ‘infected’ by a ‘corona dog’. Then the student is unceremoniously thrown outside and sprayed by a man with a fire extinguisher that contains so-called disinfectant.
In order not to become the student in the video, the voice-over calls on you to adhere to the corona measures, such as wearing a mouth mask. The voice also calls to keep 1.5 meters away from adults. This is reinforced with the slogan ‘Consciously Distance-Keeping Pupil’ or BAL, a little nod to the ‘bob you or bob me?’ Campaign.

Comments
Although the children are visibly enjoying the video, many people on social media feel that Vechtdal College is going too far. For example, a woman writes: “I also took my child directly from this school. What a disgusting indoctrination. ” Another Twitterer even calls the video “covid propaganda”.
As a mother this makes me very sad. I had also taken my child directly from this school. What a disgusting indoctrination, you should be ashamed to death! Keep your hands off the children. Mouth masks do not work and can even be very harmful to young lungs????

This is not funny. Children are being attacked with covid propaganda. News, advertising, TV programs, newspapers, insta. Nowhere are they safe from this indoctrination and then also at your school? How can such a school management think this will have a positive effect? pic.twitter.com/ecpCbTREmD

Yet not all reactions to the video are negative. Some people don’t understand the fuss and actually find the video funny.
Sorry, but even my mentally impaired neighbor understands that this is an acted video, with a wink.
Man man man. You stupid moron.

I think it’s a funny movie. They must have had a lot of fun making it together.
And no, it is not the real reality of the school, as reactions might suggest.– Rob Vergeer (@RobVergeer) October 20, 2020

‘Well expected’
Roel Gritter, spokesman for the school, late Heart of the Netherlands know to have expected the negative reactions. “Just not in that quantity. You know how people can react, but that hasn’t stopped us. ”
“The students could sign up for the movie,” says Gritter. “It was of course completely staged, but apparently not everyone sees that it is fake. Of course we didn’t spray that boy with a fire extinguisher. There were also gymnastics mats on the spot where he landed, but you don’t see that. People have crazy ideas about such a movie. ”
The film is appreciated within the school. Gritter also let it be known to simply leave it online.
