Prior Walter has AIDS. His partner Louis turns away from him and finds refuge with the lawyer Joe Pitt, who lives in a strict Mormon marriage with his wife Harper, but discovers his repressed homosexuality with Louis. Roy Cohn, a power-obsessed Republican and Joe’s employer, would rather have his family doctor diagnose liver cancer than admit he has AIDS. Tony Kushner interweaves these three seemingly loose storylines with fascinating psychological precision and a great pinch of black humor to create a portrayal of US morals under Ronald Reagan in the 1980s.
