Angelique Nagel became known nationwide through the short film “Angelique” by Elisabeth Schieber, which won awards at several festivals. Like her queer protagonist, the director comes from Moosburg and was looking for a topic for her graduation film at the Munich University of Television and Film.
With her transition, the hairdresser entered unknown territory in the Bavarian countryside in the 1960s – but with chutzpah, joy of life and determination, she was well prepared for this journey to herself. She saved 10,000 German marks for gender reassignment surgery and traveled to Morocco in 1969, not without risk. Luckily everything went well.
In the short portrait in the “Mittelbayerische Zeitung”, Nagel talks about the reactions in her hometown, and director Schieber also has her say. (cw)
