After 21 years of faithful service, actress Angelina Jolie steps down as special envoy of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), AFP reported.
“After twenty years of working in the United Nations system, I feel the time has come to work differently and engage directly with refugees and local organisations,” the actress said in a statement released by the UNHCR. She does not indicate what her future initiatives will be.
“We are grateful for his decades of service, dedication and contributions to refugees and forcibly displaced people,” UNHCR Chief Filippo Grandi said in a statement.
Jolie was appointed UNHCR special envoy in 2012 and has since participated in 60 field missions, attracting attention with her popularity for refugee crises, BTA recalls.
