Angelina Jolie: her Quebec origins and other revelations

Some celebrities have a knack for getting noticed, not through scandal, but rather through their kind actions. This is the case of Angelina Jolie. In addition to her beauty and undeniable acting talent, the Hollywood icon has also managed to make her life an inspiring model. In this new biography, not only do we discover the star’s impressive career, but we also highlight her dedication to various humanitarian causes.

Reading this new biography, we can certainly say that the actress and director, Angelina Jolie, despite her fame, has kept both feet on the ground. We could even say that she has used her fame to embrace good causes by defending the most deprived.

But the icon didn’t have it easy, even though both of his parents were actors.

Born in Los Angeles in 1975, Angelina saw her parents divorce when she was only two years old. Her father, actor Jon Voight, was unfaithful to his wife, Marcheline Bertrand (French-American—). She had to raise her two children alone, forcing her to abandon her acting ambitions. She lived on a modest income. Angelina was the laughing stock of the children at her school, forced to wear second-hand clothes. She learned French from her mother. In fact, her first name is that of her Quebec great-grandmother, Angélina Leduc, originally from Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pérade.

Angelina remained on bad terms with her father and claimed to no longer want to speak to him, despite an attempt at reconciliation during the filming of a movie.

She has taken steps to remove her father’s name from her birth name, Angelina Jolie Voight.

Angelina’s childhood and adolescence were rather difficult. She claimed to have had a collection of knives that she used to self-harm. Her thinness is also the subject of speculation.

Already determined to become an actress, she took classes at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute at the age of 11, but Angelina had a strong character, in addition to a rebellious side.

“I was a punk kid,” she confided. She dropped out of school, only to return to school a few years later.

Although she began her career at the age of 18 as a model and actress, she unfortunately experienced several failures before being recognized as an actress.

The tide turned in her favor as she was awarded an Oscar at age 25 as Best Supporting Actress in the film, A Stolen Life. Nevertheless, commercial failures will be as important as successes over the years, which will not prevent her from becoming, in the 2000s, the highest paid actress in the world.

Activist and humanist

Reading her story, we understand that Angelina Jolie aspires to much more than a life as an actress. In addition to having played in about thirty films, she becomes a director, producer and even a screenwriter. She will say that she likes directing more than being directed.

But the glamour of Hollywood is no longer enough to fill the star’s life, and he becomes increasingly aware of the misery that exists far from the spotlight.

It was during a filming in Cambodia that she realized what she really wanted to do. With great compassion, she wanted to defend the rights of the most vulnerable.

Today, at the age of 49, Angelina devotes much of her time to her activism.

“We cannot turn a blind eye and ignore the fact that millions of people are living in pain. I sincerely want to help,” the star said.

In addition to donating her time, she does not hesitate to make significant financial donations to countries in distress. In particular, she gave one million dollars to Afghan refugees, following an international emergency appeal by the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees). She has taken part in no fewer than 60 humanitarian missions in the field.

Several children

Angelina is the mother of six children, three of whom were adopted from war-torn countries. As for her three biological children, they are from her relationship with Brad Pitt, whose marriage and divorce have caused much ink to flow.

His first adopted son, Maddox, originally from Cambodia, partly earned him Cambodian citizenship, but it was mainly for his humanitarian commitment to the community that the King of Cambodia granted him citizenship.

She also adopted Zahara from Ethiopia at the age of seven months, as well as a Vietnamese boy, Pax, abandoned at the age of three.
