Johan Derksen, René van der Gijp and Wilfred Genee were under fire two weeks ago after Johan made a revelation about his young years as a football player. He is said to have ‘introduced’ a candle to someone fifty years ago. He later nuanced this, but to no avail. Especially the jolly atmosphere during and after the anecdote was experienced as terrible by many people.

Angela de Jong told yesterday in Beau that she understands that that atmosphere is there in the studio. “I understand that there is a certain dynamic there at the table, when you see it again…”, she says until she is interrupted by Derk Sauer. “I’ve kept my mouth shut for a long time,” he begins, “but Angela, isn’t that nonsense that you can imagine that a certain dynamic arises at the table?”

“When someone says something like that, you say, ‘What’s going on here?'” he continues. Angela is on the defensive. “Look, Johan started his story with: ‘I have a story’. Well then Van der Gijp starts screaming like a kind of Gerard Joling. And then there is another sentence and then there is laughter even harder. If you know the program then you know: there’s going to be some silly ending now. I can really imagine that everyone was laughing there and that at some point the penny dropped like: shit, what are we laughing about anyway?”

Derk doesn’t think that’s a good explanation. “I can’t imagine that at all. I find it incomprehensible that people start laughing when someone tells a story about a woman who is drowsy on a couch and then goes to work with a candle.” Although Angela kept the jolly mood during the infamous Today Insidebroadcast, she doesn’t understand why the VI-men didn’t say right after that the story went too far. “They didn’t sense it,” she concludes.
