Angela Carini testimonial of the company that will build the bridge over the Strait

The decision by Webuild, the company that will build the bridge over the Strait, to launch a new project has sparked irony on social media Angela Carini among the testimonials of her campaign for sport. Carini, to tell the truth, had been chosen before the Olympics, of which she became a controversial protagonist, after the meeting with the Algerian boxer Imane Khelif and the controversy that followed. But only this week the company launched its video campaign that sees it among the protagonists. And the result on social media was greeted with (easy) irony precisely with reference to the future Bridge: “Let’s hope it outlasts her”.

The campaign is titled “Webuild for sport. Building a dream: stories of champions”. The protagonists are five Italian athletes: the sailor Catherine Bantythe judoka Alice Bellandi, the sprinters Zaynab Dosso e Antonella Palmisano and the boxer Carini, chosen as an example of “audacity, perseverance, resilience, tenacity and passion”. Carini, fresh from retirement for abandoning the ring against Khelif after just 46 seconds, is immortalized like the others with a red helmet, the company crest and the word “passion”. In the commercial, the five champions are seen engaged in training, while a motivational message associates the desire to never give up, to go beyond difficulties, with the corporate vision of the construction company. A concept also expressed in the film in which Carini is alone. “We are all here to make the same dream come true”, she says.

The commercial, most likely shot before the Olympics, was launched on August 12 and the mockery on social media soon began. With comments like this: “Carini testimonial for the Bridge over the Strait. Very suitable as a choice, someone who doesn’t finish a meeting for a project that will never be finished”; “Will the Bridge also collapse after 46 seconds?”; “If the Bridge has the same resistance as Carini, we’re in a safe place”; “Let’s hope it lasts longer than her”. Not very kind messages towards the boxer. Certainly not the effect the creators of the campaign wanted to achieve.
