Hollywood star Angela Bassett has openly expressed her feelings regarding her Academy Award nomination for her outstanding performance in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – 88%. The actress, known for her role as Queen Ramonda in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), revealed that she was surprised and disappointed when her name was not announced as the winner of the best actress award for cast at the last Oscar ceremony.

Bassett, who previously won the Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice Awards for his performance in the Marvel film, shared his thoughts during a candid conversation with host Oprah Winfrey as part of the OWN Spotlight series (via Variety).

The actress admitted to feeling “stunned” when Jamie Lee Curtis was announced as the Oscar winner for her role in Everything Everywhere at the Same Time – 91%, leaving Bassett empty-handed on a night many expected to be the culmination of his extraordinary career.

“I just knew they were going to say your name,” Oprah told Bassett. «We were amazed [cuando no fue así]! “We were amazed.” «I was stunned! I was,” Bassett responded. «I thought I handled it very well. That was my intention, to handle it very well. It was, of course, a supreme disappointment, and disappointment is human. “So I thought, yeah, I was disappointed and I handled it like a human being.”

The actress highlighted the importance of handling the loss of the Oscar with grace, not only for herself, but also for her children, who accompanied her at the ceremony. “There are going to be these moments of disappointment that you will experience, but how do you behave in the midst of them?” she added. “Let’s smile, let’s be kind, let’s be courteous, let’s party anyway!”

Bassett also spoke about her role as Queen Ramonda in the Black Panther franchise, revealing that she accepted the role without even seeing the script. “Some of these places are secret with the scripts, but [el director Ryan Coogler] He said, ‘Queen.’ For years she had been saying… when they ask what else you want to play, she said, ‘I want to play a queen.’ I expressed it, obviously,” Bassett said. «Because she is not queen for me, she is queen for us. We are queens. My mother, my aunt, you. “We all are.”

With her Oscar nomination for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Bassett became the first person to be nominated for an Academy Award for a Marvel film. Although she did not take home the golden statuette, her performance is still widely praised.
