The port of Pasaia ranks first in the latest maritime-port transport ranking dedicated to vehicular traffic published by ANFAC, the Spanish Association of Car and Truck Manufacturers. Thus leads the ranking together with the Port of Tarragona with an overall score of 4.4 out of 5.
The indicators were developed starting from a questionnaire on the most relevant aspects for configuring a competitive port service for the maritime transport of vehicles and were answered by the companies in the sector associated with ANFAC, with reference to the service received in the year 2021.
This is a period still strongly marked by the situation deriving from the Covid-19 pandemic. In the case of vehicle manufacturing, the microchip crisis has been the main limiting factor in production capacity and has made the volumes available to be transported extremely volatile throughout the year, requiring exceptional flexibility from ports.
Given these circumstances, the port of Pasaia has improved its assessment compared to the previous report, published in 2020, improving aspects of great importance for the automotive sector. In particular, the proactivity of the port and the relationship with the customer, customs procedures, road accesses, the allocation of storage areas or other accidents involving vehicles obtained a better evaluation.
Satisfaction of producers
The proactivity of the port and the relationship with the customer obtained a rating of 4.6 out of 5, an indicator that shows the general satisfaction with the port by the builders. Customs procedures are in the green band with a score of 4.1, where the agile adaptation to solve the complications deriving from Brexit stands out.
The accesses to the port, both by road and by rail, obtain very satisfactory scores. On this occasion the road access stands out with greater intensity, reaching 4.8 points, where the builders appreciate the speed of access to the port from the motorways in a particularly intense year in its use.
The availability of spaces in the face of unforeseen events and the predisposition to openings at unusual arrival times have pushed up the category of allocation of storage areas.
The category of other accidents on vehicles also improved, reaching 4.5 points due to the fact that a reduction in problems related to dirt and contamination was observed.
Only a slight reduction is recorded in relation to the movement of vehicles in the loading and unloading of ships, while remaining in a very satisfactory position of 4.3 points.
The rest of the aspects assessed by the ANFAC report remained at the same level as in 2020, with particular emphasis on rail access with a score of 4.2 and the flexibility of the service, which obtained an excellent score of 4.8 points.
The automotive terminal of the port of Pasaitarra is managed by the NOATUM and UECC companies, main participants in the result obtained in the ANFAC report together with the rest of the logistics operators such as Logirail, Transfesa or GEFCO.
