Andy Townsend said on talkSPORT (4:41 pm, March 8, 2021) that the goal Arsenal conceded at the weekend was Bernd Leno’s fault, not Granit Xhaka.
Xhaka made a poor mistake against Burnley that led to a Chris Wood goal in the first half of the Premier League game between the two teams at the weekend.
The Swiss international midfielder received a short pass from his Arsenal teammate and goalkeeper Leno, and while trying to stick to the Gunners’ philosophy of playing from behind, he made a serious mistake that led to a goal.

The 28-year-old has been widely criticized for his mistake, but former Chelsea and Aston midfielder Villa Townsend has pointed out that German goalkeeper Leno shouldn’t have passed it to him in the first place.

Townsend said on talkSPORT (4:41 pm, March 8, 2021): “Who is to blame? Granit Xhaka? They all tried with him. It is the goalkeeper’s fault because he gave him the ball ”.
The expert added: “Yes, you have your philosophy, but it’s so stupid to try to play. Also, you are going to drop him on Granit Xhaka on his weaker foot.

Is Andy Townsend right?
Leno is a good goalkeeper, but in that situation, the Arsenal man should be cleared.
While racking up attacks from the back is commendable, players need to know when to take risks and when not to.
Perhaps the goal that Arsenal conceded against Burnley is a lesson for Mikel Arteta’s men.
