In November last year, it became known that the former Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor (61) had cancer, more specifically prostate cancer in the fourth stage.
The band’s vocalist, Simon Le Bon (64), announced from the stage. At the same time, he could tell that Taylor had been diagnosed a full four years earlier.
In an exclusive interview with People the guitarist has now opened up more about the serious illness, and says, among other things, that it was during a jog that he noticed that something was not right.
Taylor felt pain, but convinced herself it was nothing. Then he noticed a couple of lumps in the lymph nodes.
– The first thing I thought was “when was the last time I had a prostate test?”, says the 61-year-old.
– My father died of prostate cancer, so it is in the family history. I suspected this might be the same, and it turned out to be true.
Taylor admits that he was still put off when he got the diagnosis, especially the thought of what he now had in front of him.
– As harsh as it sounds, it is a death sentence, he says.
Andy Taylor and Duran Duran split up in 2006.
The British group has featured on charts and been frequently played on the radio since the 80s. The Birmingham band is known for songs such as “Ordinary World” and “Hungry Like the Wolf”.
