When you think of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, you can’t help but think of Andy Serkis’ incredible portrayal of Gollum, the gaunt hobbit transformed by the power of the One Ring.
The actor revealed to The Guardian that it is particularly difficult to put himself in the shoes of such a complex character, and that he even has a habit of crawling even off the set to prepare.
“I have always felt like an outsider, which has been fundamental to a lot of the work I have done. To be other. To be different. Be outside. Not having the impression of being part of a large group of which you are sure. I used to crawl off the set when we were shooting Lord of the Rings. I spent a lot of time getting ready [come Gollum]. I crawled on all fours for hours. Every now and then I would run into other people, so I had to pretend I was looking for something. It was my method of entering the character ”.
Andy Serkis also admitted that he was lucky enough to land the Lord of the Rings trilogy at an early age, which allowed him to handle stardom the best he could: “I don’t think I would have. could handle the kind of fame that The Lord of the Rings sparked if I had been younger. I was in my thirties when it all blew up. I am grateful that it happened at that time. It was an extraordinary time; so much has been learned from this experience and whether I like it or not, this role lives with me on a daily basis. It will never go away ”.
One of the new Lord of the Rings gadgets has been dedicated to Gollum.
