Andy Robertson recalls the reaction of the Liverpool squad when he wore a Chelsea shirt

Andy Robertson has revealed that the rest of the Liverpool squad weren’t too happy about him putting on a Chelsea shirt after the Reds were confirmed as Premier League champions last season.

The Blues’ victory over Manchester City in June saw Jurgen Klopp’s side seal the top spot and led to scenes of riot celebration from the team, who had gathered to watch the game in a hotel .

There was some surprise when reports emerged that Robertson donned a Chelsea top at the party that followed.

But speaking to FourFourTwo, he explained his reasoning behind it – and revealed that the jersey was originally owned by fellow Scotland member Billy Gilmour.

“When it came to that June night – when Manchester City lost to Chelsea and we were confirmed as champions – the club had everything organized for us after beating Crystal Palace 4-0 the day before,” said Robertson.

“We had booked a hotel and organized a barbecue.

“I won’t lie: I have a Chelsea shirt in my possession, and maybe I joked it for the boys in our pre-game group chat.

“It didn’t go well, and I got the bites I was hoping for. It doesn’t quite suit me: it’s Billy Gilmour, so a bit small for me! “
