Former world number 1 Andy Murray can dream of a third consecutive Olympic gold at the Tokyo Games after being selected on Thursday to compete with the British team.
Murray, 34, whose career has been weighed down in recent years by injuries, beat Argentine Juan Martín del Potro in a memorable final at the Rio 2016 Games.
Four years earlier the Scotsman won the final of the London Games against legend Roger Federer.
In addition to playing singles in Tokyo, Murray will be in doubles alongside Joe Salisbury.
Murray, the winner of three Grand Slam titles, returned from an injury last week at Queen’s and lost in the second round to future champion Matteo Berrettini.
His next challenge is to shine at Wimbledon, where he won twice and for which he received an invitation. The grass tournament starts on Monday.
The Games, postponed in 2020 due to the pandemic, will be played in the Japanese capital from July 23 to August 8.
