Andy Murray reveals how he felt about being part of Roger Federer’s departure

Andy Murray said it was “extra special” to be part of Roger Federer’s farewell. Federer, a former 20-time Grand Slam champion, retired from professional tennis after this year’s Laver Cup.

At Team Europe, Federer was joined by some of his biggest rivals: Murray, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. While Federer and Nadal played a doubles match, Murray and Djokovic supported them from the Team Europe bench.

“It was incredible and very exciting. I really enjoyed the whole Laver Cup – it was my first time at this event and being able to see Roger’s last match was very special.

To be honest, there was quite a bit of joking and teasing. One evening I went with Roger and [Teamkapitän] Bjorn Borg out to dinner which was a really fun night, even though Bjorn spent most of the night making fun of me.

We had a lot of good workouts together and I really liked the dynamics of the team” Murray told Hello.

Murray in his 2023 schedule

Murray competed in 2022 hoping to make his first deep Grand Slam run since 2017.

Unfortunately for Murray, no Grand Slam happened for him this year. As 2023 begins, Murray reveals that he has a busy schedule as he is determined to prepare well for the Australian Open.

“I have a pretty busy schedule planned. I’m starting the year in Australia which is always great fun. I will play a tournament out there and then the Australian Open. After that I’ll do a few more tournaments on hard courts, then hopefully clay and then I’ll be back in the UK for the grass season.

At the moment I’m still focused on playing tennis and winning matches. I’ve been happy with my progress this year, but there are definitely some areas I can improve in,” Murray revealed. Murray is a five-time Australian Open finalist, but has never won everything at Melbourne Park.
