Murray invites an Iranian ex-prisoner to watch him at Wimbledon
Scottish tennis star Andy Murray directed the Iranian-British Iranian Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, who was imprisoned for 6 years in Iran on spying charges, to watch his Wimbledon match from the royal box.
Zaghari-Ratcliffe, who was released last year, told Murray in December while she was in solitary confinement in Iran that in 2016 they allowed her to watch television, and she was able to watch him win his second Wimbledon win.
On Tuesday, Zaghari attended a match in which Murray defeated his counterpart Ryan Peniston from an exclusive seat on the court, as she sat behind the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton and the former Swiss tennis player, Roger Federer.
“It’s the strangest and most amazing story I’ve ever heard about someone following me,” Murray said, according to the “Daily Mail”.
