Andy Murray, former world number 1, announced that watching the Netflix documentary “The Social Dilemma” led him to delete Twitter and Instagram. Murray has had some difficult months with many asking him to retire from tennis now, recently deleting his accounts on Twitter and Instagram.
But the messages he received weren’t the reason the Scot decided to move away from social networks. In the documentary The Social Dilemma, former employees of leading social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram described how every step of the internet is tracked.
“I don’t have Twitter on my phone and I deleted Instagram last week,” Murray said, according to The Telegraph. “Not because of that [die Kommentare zum Ruhestand]. You can see these things on Instagram and social media when you’re obviously there and when you have the app on your phone.
“But I was watching this Social Dilemma movie a while ago. I thought it was great and then a few days after my match last week, I went to an interview with all the people responsible for it and said, yes , I’m done.”
Murray won his first ATP match of the season
On Monday, three-time Grand Slam champion Murray recovered from a one-set deficit to beat Robin Haase in the first round of Rotterdam and claim his first Tour win since August 2020.
“It’s not easy. I feel like I’m playing for my career every time I step on the field, which is kind of a motivator,” said Murray. “But it also brings a bit of additional stress.
There is a little more doubt and I also play with a metal hip, which is difficult. Trust me, it ain’t easy. It’s a big challenge for me and one that I’ll face directly, but it’s not easy right now. The past few months have been quite a struggle. Photo credit: Getty Images
