Fletcher in the late 70s organized with a school friend Vince Clarke the musical group No Romance in China. In it, he played the bass guitar. In the 80s, after meeting Martin Gore, he and Clark formed a new group, Composition of Sound. After a while, David Gahan joined her, and the group became known as Depeche Mode.
