A dozen or so months ago, the song “Siedemtyce” performed by 71-year-old Eliza Grochowiecka appeared on YouTube, and immediately afterwards the retired singer reminded her former fans on Paula Rodak’s channel, to whom – as she confirmed – she had approached her with an offer to give an interview.

“First of all, I wanted to deny the rumor circulating in the press that Andrzej left me at the moment of our greatest fame and glory. It was a little different,” she told the journalist, referring to her ex-husband’s confession published some time ago that he left her for another woman. women.
The Andrzej i Eliza group appeared on the Polish music scene thanks to Zbigniew Hołdys. It was he who suggested to Rybiński, then 21, and Grochowiecka, who was half a year younger than him, that they join forces and create a band. He supposedly told Andrzej that it would be nice if he played with the beautiful Eliza, and he thought it was an excellent idea, especially since the new acquaintance immediately caught his eye. He didn’t wait too long to make Eliza an offer of cooperation.
Less than half a year later, Andrzej and Eliza made their debut on the stage of the Opole amphitheater during the 9th National Festival of Polish Song. The band became popular overnight – not only in Poland, but also beyond our eastern border.
After the first concert tour abroad, the door to a global career was opened for the group. Andrew and Eliza conquered Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Bulgaria, Austria and Belgium. They were received with ovation everywhere, and their songs never left the charts.
Andrzej Rybiński and Eliza Grochowiecka spent all the time together, so it’s no wonder that they finally fell in love.
“We complemented each other perfectly not only on the stage. We decided to go through life together and got married,” Andrzej recalled in the “Adult Man’s Video Library” program.
While at work Eliza and Andrzej were a perfect duo, privately things weren’t going as they wanted. Finally – after 6 years of life together – they decided to break up. The whole of Poland learned that Rybiński had committed treason. It was rumored that he fell for the charm of Jolanta Szymańska from Pro Contra and left his wife for her. The fact is that after the divorce from Eliza, Andrzej married Szymańska and they are still in a happy relationship.
“I fell terribly in love with Jola and left Eliza” – he once confessed in an interview with “Super Express”, thus confirming the rumors that have been circulating for years that he destroyed his marriage and the band.
“Yes, it was my fault. If love can be called guilt,” he added.
Although Andrzej managed to convince Eliza to work together for some time after their separation in their private lives, there was no longer any feeling between them.
“I didn’t want our group to fall apart because it was giving jobs to 17 nice people. But the year 1981 came. Eliza was very afraid of what was happening in Poland. She was afraid that the Russians would come and it would be like it used to be in Hungary. So she left with his new partner to Germany, they got citizenship and they still live there today,” he told “Super Express”, which gave the interview with him the blunt title “I dumped Eliza for Jola”.
Only 4 decades after the end of cooperation with her ex-husband, Eliza Grochowiecka broke the silence and presented her version of events from years ago.

In a frank conversation with Paula Rodak, Eliza Grotowiecka admitted that she was not abandoned by Andrzej.
“We went (…) with the group Pro Contra, cool girls, but they also had an accompaniment band with cool guys playing. And so it happened that Andrzej found sympathy for himself, and I found sympathy for myself. Together we decided to break up “- she recalled.
“It was in friendship, with peace and understanding. There were no screams, no battles. I know that sensation sells better, but there was no sensation,” she added.
Eliza Grotowiecka assures that she is still friends with her first husband.
The singer does not hide the fact that Andrzej asked her for a divorce only when his new beloved became pregnant.
“I was in love with Piotrek, we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together, so there was nothing to talk about,” she says.
The more beautiful half of the duo Andrzej and Eliza also remembered the reason and moment of her departure from Poland slightly differently than her former husband.
“At the beginning of the 1980s, the situation in Poland worsened, no one wanted to sing, because people were afraid of what would happen to them tomorrow, because they were not sure what it would be like next… My Piotruś’s family, of German origin, decided to close down the manele. and move to Germany. And we stayed, got married and left only in 1988,” Rodak confessed to Pauli.
“In fact, I was chased out of the country by… pharaoh ants. As soon as they appeared in my block in Wilanów, I thought: ‘I was missing this’. I didn’t have the strength to deal with them. I left because of these ants,” she revealed.
After leaving the country, Eliza Grochowiecka and her second husband lived for some time in a center for displaced persons, waiting for papers, then they ended up in Frankfurt…
Eliza was involved in music in Germany, but – as she claims – only occasionally. For years she covered her ears whenever she heard the songs of… Andrzej and Eliza. Only after 20 years in exile did she decide to listen to old albums released digitally at that time.
“The memories came back to me. I was enchanted and moved,” she says.
Eliza was widowed six years ago.
“My Piotruś died, I was left alone, I changed home,” she said in a recent interview.
Eliza Grochowiecka, as you can see by listening to her latest song “Siedemtyce” (she composed it and wrote the lyrics herself), is in excellent vocal shape.

“I’m still holding on and I hope it will only get better,” says the retired star.
“I will sing. I will record and publish my old and new songs online,” she declared, guesting in Paula Rodak’s program.
