Andrzej Korzyński was born on March 2, 1940 in Warsaw, in 2020 he celebrated his 80th birthday. As a composer, he composed music for over 130 films, including iconic productions directed by Andrzej Wajda, and also composed music for “Akademia Pana Kleksa” and “In Desert and Wilderness”. In the 1970s, he founded Arp Life, the first Polish group to play electronic music. In 1983 he invented the character of Frank Kimono, in which he played Piotr Fronczewski.

He has also had hits such as “Yellow Calendars”, “Domek bez adres” by Czesław Niemen or “Do łezki łezka” by Maryla Rodowicz. He also wrote “The Soap Fa”.

The information about the artist’s death was the first to be published by Polish Radio, citing journalist Marcin Kuse. Korzyński died tonight at the age of 82.

Andrzej Korzyński. Who was the composer?

Korzyński – composer, arranger and pianist – was born on March 2, 1940 in Warsaw. He is considered a precursor of Polish electronic music and bigbit. He was a co-founder, together with Witold Pograniczny, of the Youth Studio “Rytm”. They made the antenna of the First Program of Polish Radio available to young musicians playing bigbit.

Songs were recorded there, among others Marek Grechuta, Czesław Niemen, Czerwony Gitar, Breakout, Trubadurów, Stan Borys, Wojciech Gąssowski.

Korzyński composed theater and film music. FROM Andrzej Wajda they collaborated on six films (“Everything for Sale”, “Hunting Flies”, “Birchwood”, “Man of Marble”, “Man of Iron”, “Miss Nobody”). In a dedication on a French vinyl record with music to “Man of Iron”, Wajda wrote: “Andrzej Korzyński, whose music brings success to my films”.

In 2017, Korzyński received the Silver Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis – the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.
