On Wednesday afternoon, the President of PaSoK, Nikos Androulakis, had a meeting with the mayor of the occupied Morphou, Victora Hatziavraam. Among the topics discussed were the developments in the region, the relations with Turkey and the problems that remain unresolved.
“PaSoK remains firmly committed to the effort to resolve the Cyprus issue based on the UN resolutions. I know very well the problem with permanent illegal settlements, which is a flagrant violation of international law. We consider it an unacceptable move on the part of Turkey” commented Mr. Androulakis in quotations.
“Also, I believe that the latest development with the approval of the new F16 armament program by the US to Turkey is a deeply negative development. Because it allows Mr. Erdogan to continue the same destabilizing practices” noted the President of PaSoK.
“We stand by your side. We believe that the European Union must take initiatives so that this huge national issue concerning the wider stability in the Eastern Mediterranean can finally find a fair and sustainable solution” concluded Mr. Androulakis.
“Huge problem in the process of solving the Cyprus case in terms of property”
For his part, Mr. Hadjiavraam described among other things that “the status quo that existed is not the same as today. Some things have changed. As you have said, the settlers who started marrying Turkish Cypriots want to acquire Cypriot citizenship. So the problems continue.
Apart from the fact that there is a huge problem in the process of solving the Cypriot case in terms of property. We are essentially being asked to accept that the user due to possible investment in a space, will be more entitled to it than the permanent owner. So, there are huge problems until we finally reach a solution on the basis of what was agreed in the framework of the UN”
