Androulakis-Mitsotakis meeting: Charilaou Trikoupis was waiting at… –

Even though the executives of Harilaou Trikoupis do not wake up and sleep with the concept of when the Androulaki-Mitsotakis meeting will take place, they are nevertheless worried about its consequences whenever it takes place. In the last few days, and on the occasion of the previous day’s debate in the parliament on the fires, they see that Maximos is trying to instrumentalize every movement of the PASOK leadership, seeking to show it as either dragging itself in opposition to the “blue” line or signing up to the (sterile and populist in the “blue” terminology) logic of “no”.

At the same time, leading executives of Harilaou Trikoupis are concerned about the political image they are projecting and do not want it to be blurred, with an obvious inclination to the right. However, it is clear that PASOK seeks to unite centrist voters who had abducted the ND and of course to bring people from abstention. Somewhere in between is the flattering political response from Nikos Androulakis to enjoy the title of Kyriakos Mitsotakis‘ “rival of awe”, since “saying, saying” lends electoral momentum and helps, together with the opinion polls, to give Nikos Androulakis an air of being prime ministerial is looking for

In this climate, and without the intentions of the prime minister and president of the ND Kyriakos Mitsotakis being clear, the meeting announced by him, during his congratulatory phone call to the president of PASOK-KINAL Nikos Androulakis on his re-election, has turned into a tug-of-war of the presidency, on the evening of October 13, 2024. Since then, no one seems to be in a hurry.

The appointment is long awaited but it is not “locked” as to the date. Already in Charilaou Trikoupi, executives remember the tactics followed by Kyriakos Mitsotakis, when Nikos Androulakis was first elected president of PASOK-KINAL in 2021, expressing by phone his intention to invite him. Neither an official invitation came to the PASOK-KINAL president’s office, nor was a meeting held at this level. It was a different time and the political relations between the two presidents and their parties were tense then. Now is the time of consents, of “pull me even if I cry”, of the anxiety about the emergence of alliances if the ND monopoly collapses electorally and in any case the pursuit of the dominant system to look for partners in order to advance government decisions that are not pro-people .

However, from PASOK, through the press representative, in a journalistic question about the meeting between the two, a general statement was made: “when there is an institutional invitation, beyond the telephone request, obviously it will happen. Mr. Androulakis has shown that he is completely institutional throughout his career and in all matters. Sooner or later, this meeting will happen. We have to see, however, what the topics of discussion will be, because national ones may also be needed in order to have a comprehensive information”.

There was no second phone call between Androulakis and Mitsotakis after the election night of the PASOK ballot box. The question is what is meant by institutional invitation. “But, an official invitation should be sent from the Office of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to the Office of the President of PASOK-KINAL, Nikos Androulakis,” says a leading member of Androulakis’ staff. And he adds meaningfully: “Social intercourse is one thing and the institutional meeting is another…”.

The institutional invitation has rules, say Harilaou Trikoupi. Of course, no one believes that Kyriakos Mitsotakis does not know political savoir-faire.
