Androulakis from Naxos: “Water shortage is emerging as a major problem” – 2024-08-04 19:00:31

The Union of Agricultural Cooperatives of Naxos was visited at noon on Saturday by the president of PaSoK, Nikos Androulakis, and spoke with the President Dimitris Kapounis and the Board of Directors about the problems of the primary sector.

“Agricultural holdings are shrinking rapidly as production costs are skyrocketing and water scarcity is emerging as a major problem as many irrigation projects remain incomplete” said Mr. Androulakis preface.

“Delignitization is becoming the business of the domestic oligarchy and there are few possibilities for farmers, breeders, processors, cooperatives to receive priority terms of connection to parks of renewable sources, so that they have stable production costs” he added.

In addition, Mr. Androulakis raised the issue of reduced access to bank financing, while severely criticizing the inability of the Ministry of Rural Development and ELGA to respond to the needs of the rural world.

“When we asked them in the Parliament why OPEKEPE is delaying giving the money that the farmers are entitled to, they told us that it was Europe’s fault. But it turned out that it was the fault of Mr. Avgenakis and the choices of New Democracy, which changed presidents in OPEKEPE for five years, so that it was finally placed under European supervision” he said characteristically.
