Last April, the news shocked both the profession and the fans at the same time LG is retiring from smartphone manufacturing. The company also stopped assembling the devices in May, but all users have been promised they won’t be let down and the mobiles they buy will continue to receive the support they need. The fruit of this promise is the update to Android 12, which the LG Velvet owner can install on the 5G model they own.
The update will be available to South Korean users for the first time, suggesting that only the 5G modem variant has benefited from the new software so far, not the LTE release, although we can’t be sure yet. It is probable that in the not too distant future the distribution of the system will start in other regions as well, so even LG Velvet owners living in Hungary will be able to install it.
All we can say is that this is an extremely waist thing from a manufacturer that quasi no longer exists, at least within that product category. Providing the most up-to-date system for a smartphone released in 2020 is exemplary only because devices from very active manufacturers with the Android 11 operating system have emerged in an incomprehensible way recently. In addition, with the latest software, the LG Velvet can still be absolutely impactful to this day, as it is a fairly well-equipped, premium mid-range model.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset, large OLED display, 48 megapixel primary camera, 4300 mAh battery, among many other features. In closing, we will unfortunately be forced to add that it is not worth expecting more high-volume updates on the LG Velvet, meaning that newer versions of Android will no longer run on the smartphone. Do you still use the cell phone in question?
