From time to time, interesting analyzes appear, and the next one comes from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP). This company monitors the rate of migration from Android phones to iOS, among many others, and usually around 10-15% of customers who buy a new iPhone are previous Android owners. The interesting thing is that last year this number reached 15%, making it a 5-year high (since 2018). CIRP even asked why this was happening.
The majority reason, at 53%, was problems with the existing one. It needed repair, was outdated and slow, or had some ailment that negatively affected working with it. A fairly frequent reason (from 26%) was the new functions of the phone, which according to customers were better with the iPhone. A better camera, more interesting accessories or a more intuitive user interface were mentioned.
The big surprise was that 15% of people cited price as the main reason. At the same time, Apple is considered a very expensive phone. In the US, however, it can sometimes be found fairly cheaply, and it is interesting, for example, that while the iPhone 14 Pro Max starts at USD 1,099 there, the competing Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra starts at USD 1,199. Here, however, it would be appropriate to remind that the iPhone has a basic storage of 128GB, while the Samsung has 256GB. The price of the iPhone 14 Pro Max with 256GB storage is the same as Samsung’s, at $1,199. Here, the iPhone is about a fifth more expensive (from CZK 36,990 versus CZK 30,490). 6% then cited connectivity within communities as the reason, i.e. primarily the iMessage and FaceTime system. But it would be interesting to see the opposite statistics as well, i.e. why (and how many people) switch from iOS to Android.
