Android Phones With Unisoc Chipsets Are Targets for Hackers

TOTAL Android phones with unisoc chipsets are in danger of being hacked by hackers. Cell phones with these chips have security holes for hackers to take advantage of to carry out their actions.

As reported from the page Tom’s Guide, the vulnerability was discovered by the mobile security company Kryptowire. If the vulnerability has been broken into by hackers, then they can access all the data on the cellphone, and take over control of the cellphone.

“This security vulnerability allows intruders to access call logs as well as system, SMS, contacts, and other personal data. In addition, intruders can modify or delete data, record device screens, use external cameras to record videos, and even take over the device remotely,” Kryptowire explained in its official statement.

This security vulnerability was found specifically on the Unisoc SC9864A chipset used on several Android phones such as Nokia (C20, C20 Plus, C30, C21, C21 Plus), Lenovo (A7 and K13, ZTE (Blade E-series), Realme C11, Samsung Galaxy (A03 and A03 Core), and many more.

Kryptowire explained that the vulnerability was related to the Unisoc pre-installed application on the chip. The application has no authentication protocol, so it can execute commands sent from any application.

By sending certain commands, malicious apps on the user’s phone, or apps installed by the phone vendor or carrier, can take over the phone.

Regarding the vulnerability, Kryptowire had reported to Unisoc, vendors and operators at the end of 2021, but only recently disclosed it to the public. Kryptowire revealed that Unisoc has not yet responded to the report.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Kryptowire said Nokia had fixed its phones affected by the vulnerability.

To prevent hackers and malicious applications, the step that can be taken is to download a trusted Android antivirus application. However, maybe the antivirus can’t be effective against malicious apps already on the phone.

If you are using one of the Android phones mentioned above, you can contact your phone vendor to see if the problem has been resolved. If not, you should not use the phone until the security gap has been resolved. (ryn)
