Android Flagship Can’t Break iPhone Domination

KOMPAS.comSmartphone Android still can’t beat domination iPhone in the mobile market flagship. This can be seen from the latest report by the Counterpoint research institute.

The Counterpoint report says that in the first quarter of 2022, volume sale cell phone flagship which is priced at 400 US dollars or the equivalent of Rp. 5.9 million and above, an 8 percent decrease from the same period in 2021.

While overall, the market smartphone in the world is down 10 percent from the same period last year.

In the first quarter of 2022, Apple still dominates the mobile phone market flagship with his iPhone lineup. In ranks one to four, the iPhone became the phone with the largest number of sales.

Overall, Apple’s total share in the market smartphone flagship also still not overtaken by other vendors in the first quarter of 2022 (Q1 2022).

Apple has a 62 percent share, far ahead of its competitor, Samsung, with a 16 percent share.

Apple’s market share also increased from last year in the same period (Q1 2021). At that time, Apple controlled 57 percent of the cellphone market flagship.

Unlike Apple, Samsung is actually a little “slip”. The market share at the beginning of the first quarter of 2022 decreased by two percent from last year.

Changes in position also occurred in third place. Huawei which used to control 9 percent of the mobile market share flagship, dropped to just 3 percent. The third place was taken over by Oppo with a 5 percent share.

Then the fourth is there Xiaomi with a 4 percent share, Vivo 3 percent, and Huawei 3 percent. While other brands have a share of 6 percent of the overall market.

The decline experienced by Samsung itself is said to be due to the launch of the Galaxy S22 series which is slightly slower than the Galaxy S21 series, as summarized by KompasTekno from the official Counterpoint page, Wednesday (29/6/2022).

However, the Galaxy S22, which was released last March, has become a mobile phone flagship Android with the highest sales.

While three brand from China, namely Oppo, Xiaomi, and Vivo, seem to be still quite stable, even though the cellphone market in China, which is the mainstay of these three companies, has declined since 2021.

Folding phones are starting to become an attraction in itself. According to Counterpoint, its sales increased 184 percent from the same period last year. Samsung still dominates the foldable phone market with its Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip series.

Competitors such as Huawei, Oppo, Xiaomi, to Motorola, have also started to have their own folding phones.
