On October 9, the third stage of the Latvian championship enduro took place for the first time in “Priežkalni” of Jelgava region. The sunny autumn day was grateful for a good enduro competition. They took place on a completely new track, a place where athletes had never started before.
The organizer of the competition had created a track rich in elements, technically difficult and complicated. At the finish, many athletes with a smile on their faces said that the track is very good, interesting and with its “string”. It included many different enduro and extreme enduro elements, such as logs, tires, concrete blocks, etc. These tests were tried to pass and most of them – a total of 92 riders.
At this stage, the victory was won by the track owner and stage organizer Andris Grīnfelds (CEC IS Racing), leaving behind teammate Ivo Šteinbergs and Edgars Siliņš (“Motosports RT”).
Miks Rasmanis (“CEC ISRacing”) won the E Junirou 16+ class and was in fourth place in the overall EGP class. One of the youngest riders of this discipline assessed that the competition in Priežkalns was very well organized. “The track was interesting. Andris Grīnfelds had done very well to prepare such a good track. I rode this track for the first time. It included everything – at first it was interesting that the journey was slow and difficult. The cross-country test was very fast, it was good to “clean the spiders” that had accumulated in the muffler. The second enduro test was a long one in which the force had to be divided into three parts. That, too, was interesting. That’s how I drove. In general, it would be said that the track was different from other tracks, it was moderately difficult. Much more work had to be done here to avoid trees, branches and shrubs. Glad that Andris made the track, he started very well and won the EGP class. Take off your hat, ”says Miks Rasmanis.
E 40+ class winner Jānis Rasmanis (“CEC ISRacing”): “The track was different than elsewhere. It was not fast, there were places to work. Very good track. One test consisted of a forest with many bends and extreme elements – trees, tires that had to jump over. The second test was a cross-country track on the sand. Interesting. The trips were very slow and technical. Thanks to Andris Grīnfelds for a very well organized competition! ”
The organizer of the competition, EGP and E2 class winner Andris Grīnfelds (“CEC IS Racing”) said that he had not completed any training since the previous stage, therefore, he did not really feel it as a home competition and that he would have had some advantages. “Of course, as much as I prepared the track myself, I knew every place. It gave effect. In the first lap I drove more stably than Ivo Šteinbergs and Edgars Siliņš. After that, all that was left was to maintain their small advantage over the competitors, ”says Andris, who admits that“ in general, I was not satisfied with my driving to the end, because I mainly focused on organizational issues. Driving at this event remained secondary. In the tests, of course, when the judge raises the flag, I only think about driving. If you have to drive temporarily, then you have to drive. For everything else – I looked at whether everything was in order on the track, whether someone had stayed somewhere, stuck, whether all the signs were in place, ”reveals the winner.
The crossing of the track went through a previously unpaved area, there were thickets, in the first lap the track was narrow. With each subsequent lap it became more enjoyable. There was both a roller coaster and a ditch with water. “Of course, it is impossible to find anything radically different in the Zemgale plains. Perhaps some riders were surprised by the fallen trees and logs on the track. Tests – the cross-country test was very fast, there were a couple of interesting places with enduro elements. The enduro test was set up long and physically difficult. You had to think all the time, otherwise you could easily get lost. Glad that most of the participants liked the competition. I would like to hope that this remains a traditional event. The first time everything went very, very well, I have gained some experience. The weather was a factor that could affect the course of the competition, but it was a pleasantly sunny and warm autumn day, ”said Andris Grīnfelds.
