Rublev defeated three-time Grand Slam champion in Madrid
In the second round of the Masters series tournament in Madrid, the Russian tennis player defeated the Swiss Stan Wawrinka. His next opponent will be Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka.

Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev reached the third round of the ATP Masters tournament in Madrid.
The 25-year-old Russian, seeded at the tournament under the fifth number, beat the Swiss Stan Wawrinka, the 84th racket of the world, in the second round with a score of 7:6, 6:4.
Wawrinka is 38 years old and has won three Grand Slam tournaments: Australian Open 2014, Roland Garros 2015 and US Open 2016.
Rublev’s next opponent will be the Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka (34th number in the ATP rating).
Rublev lost in the final of the tournament in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Rublev takes sixth place in the world ranking. The Russian has 12 ATP titles. At the Tokyo Olympics, he became the Olympic champion in the mixed doubles. In April, he won the Masters in Monte Carlo, and then reached the final of the tournament in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The tournament in Madrid will end on May 7th. The prize fund of the competition is €7.7 million. The Masters series is second in importance only to the Grand Slam and the ATP Finals.
