GERB’s aspiration is to gather the maximum number of votes, because, as Boyko Borisov says, the party’s strategy also depends on their achievement. If the number is large enough, there will be a commanding height and a coalition can be formed. If not, it remains in the previous position. This thesis was presented to BNT by the sociologist Andrey Raichev.
According to him, there is a suspicion that what happened to other parties will also happen to GERB. Borisov is keenly interested in whether there is an attempt to interfere in his party. For this reason, he looks to consolidate and center the party around him.
“If he does not form a government, it will be very bad for GERB. It’s close to life and death. It is life and death for the BSP. For DPS it is two lives and two deaths,” he pointed out.
Political scientist Stoicho Stoichev commented for his part that a future ruling majority will be three-party or four-party.
“From now on, it is clear that the most likely center of such cooperation will be GERB and PP-DB. The question is who would be the other parties that could get involved in something like this. And most importantly, on what basis will such a majority be built so that it does not repeat the fate of the previous ones,” he stressed.
“The fact that they are making a front against Boyko Borisov at this moment is either a manifestation of extreme political naivety, not to say stupidity, or it is a reckoning with Peevski. There is no other option. This is absurd. DB’s position is the natural position. The position of the PP is incomprehensible, given that they ruled with Borisov until now, they regret the assembly, that it did not continue, that it will obviously continue after that – they are making a front against him. How do you see it,” asked Andrey Raichev.
In his words, Borisov “came out of isolation, took the initiative, stable management really depends on him”. “Trump or no Trump, he doesn’t care at all.” The war in Ukraine makes the situation in Bulgaria and the world temporary,” he pointed out.
