“Andrew: The Problem Prince – An Inside Look at Prince Andrew’s Infamous Newsnight Interview”

Andrew: The Problem Prince, a two-part documentary commissioned by Channel 4, delves into the infamous Newsnight interview of Prince Andrew, in which he discussed his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Many were left wondering why he had agreed to such a disastrous interview, including Emily Maitlis, who conducted the interview after pursuing the Prince for over a year along with Newsnight producer Sam McAlister. The documentary reminds us of the privileged upbringing of the royals and how it can lead to a lack of accountability. Andrew grew up as a spoiled child and grew into an intolerable playboy who was constantly fretting about money. His association with Epstein, and the risks he took piloting helicopters during the Falklands War, only added to his image problems. In the documentary, we see Maitlis deal with the anxiety of having to confront a royal about his sex life: “I had to deal with the fact I was about to ask this man, this royal, this prince … It took Prince Andrew a little over 50 minutes to do more damage to the British Royal Family than had been inflicted upon it by 50 years of tabloid sensationalism”.
