The arrest of the Tate brothers comes after a law firm tipped off authorities that the brothers may have planned to flee the country.
The arrest warrant that has been issued concerns sexual offenses that must have taken place between 2012 and 2015 in Great Britain, writes Sky News. The Tate brothers deny the allegations.
Planned to escape
The law firm represents four women who accuse Andrew Tate of rape and sexual assault. It says they were tipped off that Tate was planning to flee Romania, where he and his brother are facing charges of rape and human trafficking.
“We wrote to the British police to alert them and urge them to immediately issue an arrest warrant in Romania and deportation to the UK,” writes law firm McCue Jury and Partners on X.
Extradition to the UK
According to Reuters, the Romanian court has approved the request to extradite Andrew Tate to the UK.
The extradition will take place when the legal process in Romania is finished – something that could take several years, according to the AFP news agency.
Already in court
Controversial British-American influencer Andrew Tate and his brother are already on trial for, among other things, rape and human trafficking in Romania, where they live. They were arrested in December 2022 and have since been under house arrest awaiting trial. Last August, Tate appealed the house arrest and won.
Tate, who has long mixed conspiracy theories into his messages, claims the allegations against him are fabricated by a global power elite.
