Andrew Tate detention extended: influencer suspected of human trafficking is detained for at least a month longer | Abroad

The controversial American-British influencer Andrew Tate will remain detained until at least the end of February. The Romanian judge extended his pretrial detention today. Tate was arrested at the end of December, as well as his brother and two Romanian women, who are also suspected of human trafficking, rape and forming a criminal organization, among other things.

The 36-year-old Tate was hiding near the Romanian capital Bucharest, where he was shot on December 29 was arrested. Prosecutors believe Tate, his brother and the two Romanians are behind a criminal organization whose purpose is to “recruit, harbor and exploit women by forcing them to produce pornographic material that can be viewed online for a fee.” The brothers would have made a lot of money from it.

The criminal investigation has been ongoing since the beginning of this year. Prosecutors have identified at least six women who were allegedly sexually exploited by the suspects.

Earlier this week, Romanian authorities seized money and goods from Tate, worth a total of more than 3.6 million euros. These included luxury cars, watches and piles of cash. If Tate is found guilty, these assets could be used to cover the costs of the investigation and compensate victims.

Tate denies all allegations and previously asked the judge for release, but he did not agree. A message posted on his Twitter account on Thursday read: “I am in detention as they ‘search’ for evidence. They’ll never find evidence because we’re not guilty. They will continue to ignore and throw away any testimonials or hard evidence that we are innocent. My case is not about the truth. This is about politics.’

Andrew Tatea former professional kickboxer, first became discredited in 2016 when he was removed from the TV show Big brother was put because it was recorded how he attacked a woman. After being kicked out of the program, Tate wrote on Twitter that “women must take responsibility for sexual abuse.” He was subsequently banned from various social media channels. Since Elon Musk took over Twitter, Tate has his account back.
